Lag or Poor Performance
Use this page when players can join but gameplay feels slow, delayed, or unstable.
Check who is affected
Section titled “Check who is affected”Ask whether all players are affected or only one player. One affected player often points to a client or network issue. Everyone affected usually points to server load, world activity, mods, or a platform issue.
Read the Portal metrics
Section titled “Read the Portal metrics”Open the server console and check the metrics shown in the Portal:
- CPU: high sustained CPU can mean heavy world generation, too many active entities, expensive plugins, or a burst of player activity.
- Memory: memory near the plan limit can cause slowdowns or crashes, especially on modded servers.
- Disk: heavy disk activity can appear during backups, world saves, or large file changes.
- Network: spikes can happen when players join, chunks load, or files transfer.
Short spikes are normal. Sustained high usage during normal play is the signal to investigate.
Common causes
Section titled “Common causes”- Too many players for the current setup.
- Heavy mods, plugins, or datapacks.
- World generation or chunk loading.
- Large backups or file changes during play.
- Client-side mod or version mismatch.
What shared CPU means
Section titled “What shared CPU means”Shared CPU means your server uses compute capacity from the hosting platform rather than a dedicated physical CPU. Short bursts are expected. If performance is consistently poor during normal play, reduce load, review mods, or consider a larger plan if available.
If it still does not work
Section titled “If it still does not work”Open a ticket with the server name, game/runtime, player count, what players experience, whether all players are affected, and screenshots or values from the Portal metrics.
